A Space Designed to Last: Inside YIN's New Shanghai Boutique
Twelve years after YIN was founded in Beijing, we're opening a new chapter in Shanghai.
Our new boutique at West Bund Central is more than a place to discover jewelry. It's a space that brings our design philosophy to life — where Eastern wisdom meets contemporary aesthetics, and every detail carries intention.
Welcome to a different side of YIN.

Ancient Wisdom, Contemporary Expression
Rooted in Eastern philosophy, YIN has always been fascinated by the ways ancient ideas can find new meaning in modern life.
Our opening exhibition explores Wu Xing, the traditional Chinese philosophy of the Five Elements: Wood, Fire, Earth, Metal, and Water.

At first glance, the installation resembles a Bauhaus-inspired composition of geometric color blocks. Look closer, and you'll discover an ancient system of five symbolic colors, each connected to an element and a direction.
Blue-green for Wood and East. Red for Fire and South. White for Metal and West. Black for Water and North. Yellow for Earth and the Center.
This dialogue between past and present is at the heart of YIN's design language.
We don't simply recreate traditional symbols.
We explore their meaning and reinterpret them through modern forms.
A Space Designed to Last
At YIN, we've always believed that beauty should last.
As a Certified B Corporation®, we believe thoughtful design also means considering what comes before and after a product's creation.
Our Shanghai boutique extends this philosophy beyond jewelry and into the space itself.

The sculptural island counter is carved from a single block of China Black stone from the Taihang Mountains. Rather than discarding the leftover stone, we transformed the fragments into smaller display stands.

Recycled ceramic tiles by Yi Design, textiles made using recycled coffee grounds, and hand-hammered vintage brass trays bring new purpose to existing materials. Handcrafted curtains made from washed vintage cotton and reclaimed fabric samples add another layer of texture and history.
These details may seem small, but together they reflect something we deeply believe:
good design considers not only how something looks, but also how it's made and how long it can last.

Twelve Years of YIN. Still Exploring.
Since 2014, we've continued to explore what thoughtful design can be — creating jewelry that is not only beautiful, but timeless and meaningful.

Our new Shanghai boutique is another expression of that journey.
Whether you visit us in person or discover YIN from across the world, we hope this space offers a closer look at what we believe in and why we create.

Beauty should last. And meaning should, too.
